Hey all,

Here’s a short video displaying how enormously easy it is to use the Zygor Guide. This video is what pulled me over the line. I have plenty experience with add-0ns and homebrew interface changes and I can tell you that they are, without fail, a pain to install and to keep running.

This guide does all the work by it’s self. It’s a one click, no brainer and it keeps itself up to date from there.

Whatch this video and be amazed. Honestly, if this doesn’t convince you, nothing will.

Hey all. This is GusVds, the author of this blog with the uncensored story behind my failed attempt to reinvent the WoW Archeology Guide and how I eventually found the very best solution to every possible information problem you could ever have in WoW.

I set out to create a complete WoW Archeology Guide that was easy to use and quick to read without the need for printing maps and lists. Because I find that in the field of MMORPG’s there is an enormous amount of information that is already widely available, but not in a gamer friendly way.

So navigate straight to the guide and skip the rest of my story to find an exact step by step guide on how to obtain your Survey and Archeology Skills (with pictures). I’ll guide you through finding artifacts in the field with an excellent video and I’ll describe how the artifacts fit together and how to make the most of your dig sites. I strongly urge you to read on however, because I can promise you a valuable insight into best tool for bringing all this information together in your Warcraft game.

Here’s what I figured. Wouldn’t it be enormously handy if you could have all the information on hand in game. A simple little window somewhere that has all the relevant information on items and locations ready at hand? It would be even better if that little window would update our information according to where we are and what we are doing. And not just directions to digsites either, but information that will supercharge your ability to powerlevel all skills and professions by telling you exactly what to get or kill and directions on how to get there. No more lists and maps. No more paper. Just a little helper on the side that gives you exactly what you need, when you need it. Wouldn’t that just be the bomb?

YES, THAT WOULD BE AMAZINGLY EXCELLENT!!!!

Well there are rather a number of free add-ons for WoW that will provide you with some of these features, but never with all of them. I also don’t trust free stuff made by (well meaning) hobbyists. Here’s my top three reasons to thoroughly mistrust freeware add-ons.

  1. If you get your add-ons from unchecked, free sources you might get spyware or a virus. It’s like downloading songs from illegal sources compared to downloading songs from Itunes which is guaranteed precisely as advertised and absolutely free of anything. Who can remember the WoWMatrix and Curse disasters?
  2. Add-ons you install yourself are not updated so in the ever changing World of Warcraft the information gets real old real fast. It’s like having a really old SatNav. And that’s not even taking into consideration the times when Blizzard makes a change to the actual game engine. Such changes render most add-ons useless until they are updated by their creator.
  3. If things go wrong, there is really no support at all. You have no idea how separate add-ons might interact. Blizzard obviously does not support any of these add-ons. And a nice little tool created by a well meaning hobbyist wreaking havoc with your system is not likely to garner a great deal of support.

So, we’re looking for a WoW Archeology Guide add-on that is guaranteed free of crap, always up to date and provides you with excellent customer support? Well, I found it. It is without doubt, hands down the very best add-on for World of Warcraft available today. Not only for Archeology, but also for:

  • Making vast amounts of gold quickly with dailies
  • Getting your Lore Master and Crusader titles
  • Obtaining all your heirloom items

And as a bonus it guides you from level 1 to level 85 in the quickest possible way. In short a complete guide detailing anything and everything you could possibly want to know. And the best thing is that the whole thing is available in game.

For over 3 years it has been the best selling World of Warcraft product on the web. Through creative innovation and hard work, it transformed the guide industry with the worlds first ever in-game leveling guides. I believe this guide is a top quality product backed with outstanding customer support.

So why don’t you CLICK HERE to head on over to their website and see for yourself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Ok, so you’ve managed to get your archeology profession from the starter trainer and you’ve managed to find an leveling area where you can deploy your survey skill. You were possibly a little bit confused about the actual process, but now that you’ve watched the video and you’ve gone out into the field to try it for yourself. This means you’ve also found that once you begin you’re swamped with tiny little bits of information. You probably found a whole  bunch of artifacts already and you probably have only a very basic grasp on what to do with them. Well here are the three most important things you need to know about artifacts.

TOP 3 FACTS IN THIS WOW ARCHEOLOGY GUIDE

  1. You can find up to three artifacts per digsite. So once you’ve dug up your first, deploy your survey skill again in order to find some more. A digsite will not yield more than three artifacts though.
  2. The artifacts your find come in a variety of different kinds, all linked to a certain race. I have yet to find out if there is any significant difference in them as I have yet to complete an artifact (this guide is taking up more valuable play time than I had planned).
  3. Keystones are rare and special artifacts you sometimes find. They can contribute up to 12 pieces of the puzzle you have to solve. Not all artifacts can make use of the keystones, but some can and they are highly prized. I can’t say from first hand how difficult it is to find them, but judging from the amount of money they go for I should think they are very rare indeed. Artifacts that can benefit from a keystone are clearly labeled as such.

Now I’ve given you all the basics you need to start and develop a succesful carreer in WoW archeology. I have to admit that making this leveling guide has been a daunting task so far. I have absolute stacks of material ready to be processed and now that I have the basics layed out for you I find that there is fairly little new information I can contribute. So from here on in I’m going to focus on bringen already exsisting information I come across in a simple and consise way all into one all encompassing comprehensive levening wow archeology guide so you don’t have to go through the trouble of googling around for hours trying to find a guide that works for you.

Ok, so I understand my explanation on the actual survey process for archeology left something to be desired. It makes perfect sense when you see it in action, but for the novice it might raise some questions. In order to adress these I’ve found you all a short video outlining the process as it happens on the ground. In order to keep this guide page uncluttered and because I think I’ll have to move the gold tips and levening area maps to their own dedicated pages at some point in the future anyway, I’ve posted this short video on a page of it’s very own.

Rightio. I’m well on my way to providing a comprehensive Guide for Leveling WoW Archeology. I thought it was gonna be rather easy because the proces of leveling archaeology is not very complicated. Once you get the hang of reading the survey skill and the position of the spyglass / telescope, it’s pretty much wash rince repeat. However once you powerlevel yourself up a bit, you are inundated with tiny little bits of crucial information. But I digress.

If you want to get the archeology skill in WoW and given the fact that you came here I rather think you do, you first need to get signed up as an apprentice. Archeology is a secundary profession like cooking and fishing so you can just go ahead and sign up. Unlike primary professions such as Leatherworking and Smithing where you run into a limt.

As per usual alliance folks and horde folks have their own professions trainer and in this case they are Harrison Jones (lol, very funny) in the Stormwind library and Belloc Brightblade in the Grommash Hold. And in case you have trouble with any of those you can always visit Dalaran where you can find Dariness the learned in the Legerdemain Lounge. Specific map locations and coordinates will be provided in the maps sections once I figure out how to do that properly.

Once signed up its out into the field with ya. You first have to find a Digsite. This is the actual area of the map where you can perform your survey skill. If you take a gander at your world map you’ll quickly spot the shovels dotted around the place. These are the zones where you can currently find archeology dig sites.  That’s where all the action takes place. So shovels on the world map is what you’re looking for. Once you’ve entered your selected zone you’ll notice the shovels are gone so now you’ll be looking for encircled areas. These are the actual areas you’ll need to travel to in order to survey. On a side note, the actual archeology skill is used to combine artifacts into something usefull, solving the puzzle so to speak.

Now, here’s where the fun begins. In real world archaeology you have to start with really boring work like mapping out a grid and leveling areas of interest removing top soil and such. Not in WoW Archeology however. You can start right away by activiting your survey skill. This will spawn a spy glass or telescope with a discolight on a stick right next to it. Yes, a spyglass with a discolight on it. You can do this anywhere you like as long as you’re in the encircled archeology area on the map. The light comes in three colours. Red if you’re a long way off, yellow if you’re within 60 yards and green if you’re pretty much on top of your artifact. The telescope points in the direction you need to go. So, pop up your scope and judge the distance to the artifact by the colour of the light and the direction by the direction in which the spyglass is pointing. Once you’ve walked a way, try again. If you do this right the lights on the sticks will turn from red, to green. Once you’re in the green area you simply triangulate where the artifact is and if you’re close enough it’ll pop. You do this by walking a little bit forward and survey again untill the spyglass changes direction. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll walk straight to it though. BE CAREFULL OF MOBS THOUGH for they will attact and smite you mercilessly.
Telescope and Light on a Stick indication direction to and distance from artifact
Next post will be on artifacts and what the heck you do with them. I’m hoping to get a good chunk of the map data out with the next post, but I need to get my notes sorted and there’s an absolute ton of information I need to sift through first. So I’ll go do that while you practise with finding artifacts in the field.

Hey all, it’s Gus here. This is the first post of my very own Guide to Leveling WoW Archeology. With Cataclysm, World of Warcraft (WoW) got a whole bunch of brand new super exciting stuff. The death knight class is was added and there is also a brand new profession called archeology. I’m gonna leave the powerleveling guides for the new Death Knight to other people, because I just can’t be bothered with finding what to kill where and when. You kill stuff, you level, not the most fun for me. I’ve always loved crafting so I wanted to have a go at contributing a wonderful new WoW archeology guide to the already overcrowded universe of guidebooks and top tips for WoW. I figured that this would be one of the few leveling areas (together with gold guides) where I can actually contribute something. So there you have it.
